Each year on the third weekend of September, Kikinda hosts Dani Ludaje, a festival built around the local tradition of pumpkin growing.
The main focus of the event is the competition to determine the heaviest and longest pumpkin. Most of the program takes place on the town square in Kikinda, where visitors can also find guest presentations and accompanying activities.
Saturday is described as the key day for competition entries and visiting programs. Through Banatski fruštuk and the European Corner, the event presents ethnic and tourism content from northern Banat, including Serbian and Hungarian traditions, as well as attractions from partner guests from other countries. Traditional food also has an important place in the program.
For visitors with a sporting spirit, Igre i igrarije sa ludajom includes relay racing with a pumpkin, speed contests in eating pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie, with these activities intended for primary school pupils.
Later in the day, an expert jury measures the pumpkins and announces which entries are the longest and heaviest.
