How to travel from Belgrade to Niš
By bus
The bus is the standard choice for the Belgrade–Niš corridor. Lasta and Niš-Ekspres both operate frequent daily services from Belgrade's main bus station (BAS, Beogradska autobuska stanica). Journey time via the A1 motorway is roughly 3.5–4 hours depending on stops and traffic. Buses arrive at Niš bus station, which is centrally located and within walking distance of the main sights. Check current schedules and buy tickets at bas.rs or directly from the operators.
By train
Srbija Voz operates train services between Belgrade and Niš. The train can take significantly longer than the bus on this route; check the specific timetable at srbvoz.rs before choosing. For most travellers on a time budget, the bus is the more practical option on this corridor.
By car
Driving from Belgrade to Niš follows the A1 motorway south for the full distance. The road is modern and well-maintained. Tolls apply at several points along the route; keep local currency or a card available. Under normal traffic conditions the drive takes roughly 2.5–3 hours. The centre of Niš is easily navigated by car; paid parking is available near the fortress and the central pedestrian zone.
Which option to choose
For most travellers, the bus is the clearest recommendation on the Belgrade–Niš route: frequent departures, reasonable journey time, and central arrival point. A car is worthwhile if you plan to visit sites between the two cities — the Roman site of Mediana near Niš, or the Resava cave complex — or continue south.
