How to travel from Belgrade to Novi Sad
By train (Soko fast train)
The Soko high-speed train is the standout option on this corridor. Departures run from Belgrade Prokop station, which is south of the city centre; allow time to reach Prokop, particularly from central Belgrade. The Soko train is air-conditioned, punctual by Serbian rail standards, and considerably faster than the older intercity rolling stock. Book tickets through Srbija Voz online or at the station ticket office. During busy periods — summer weekends, public holidays — booking a few days in advance is sensible. Verify the current timetable at srbvoz.rs before travelling.
By bus
Bus services between Belgrade and Novi Sad are frequent throughout the day, with multiple operators departing from Belgrade's main bus station (BAS). Lasta and several regional operators run this route. The journey takes roughly 75–90 minutes via the A1 motorway. Buses generally do not require advance booking, but popular weekend departures can fill quickly. Check current schedules at bas.rs.
By car
Driving from Belgrade to Novi Sad follows the A1 motorway north. The route is straightforward and well-signed. Tolls apply at the Novi Sad toll plaza. Journey time is roughly 75–90 minutes under normal traffic conditions, longer during peak summer weekends. Parking in central Novi Sad operates on a zone system; paid parking is available near Trg Slobode and the riverside.
Which option to choose
The Soko fast train wins on journey time and comfort. If you are travelling without luggage or a tight timetable, buses offer more departure times throughout the day. A car makes sense if you plan to continue beyond Novi Sad to Fruška Gora monasteries or into Vojvodina's villages.
