Serbia Itineraries | Multi-Day Routes Across the Country

How to use these

Each itinerary is a starting point, not a script. We list day-by-day stops with rough timings, where to sleep, and what to eat. Slide a day longer in places that grab you and skip the ones that do not. Distances in Serbia are short — Belgrade to Niš is under three hours, Belgrade to Novi Sad is one — so swapping the order rarely costs much driving.

Itinerary questions

How many days do I need in Serbia?

Five to seven days covers Belgrade, one northern stop, and one mountain or river area. Ten days lets you add Niš and the south. Two weeks is the comfortable length to visit every region without rushing.

Should I rent a car?

For Vojvodina villages, Tara, Đerdap, and small towns yes — public transport reaches them but is slow. For Belgrade and Novi Sad alone, no — walk, take taxis, and use the train between them.

Best month to visit?

Late April to mid-June and September through early October give long days, mild weather, and harvest festivals. July and August are hot but ideal for mountain trips and the Danube. Winter is for spa towns, monasteries, and Belgrade nightlife.

Are these routes good for families?

Yes. Tara, Zlatibor, the Šargan Eight train, Lepenski Vir, and Belgrade Zoo all work well for kids. Replace evening nightlife stops with afternoon park visits and the routes still work.
