What makes Sirogojno worth visiting
The reassembly of 50 traditional timber houses from across the Zlatibor mountain area means that Sirogojno's museum presents a realistic cross-section of nineteenth-century rural architecture rather than a single reconstructed example. The houses were dismantled from their original locations beginning in 1980 and rebuilt together here, along with furniture, tools, and household objects totalling around 1,500 items.
The result is a village-scale exhibit that conveys both the physical character of rural buildings and the practical realities of daily life in the period — without the interpretive distance of a traditional museum. Walking through the site involves moving between buildings of different functions: houses, barns, working spaces, and communal structures.
